DON’T GIVE UP, TURN IT UP!
STUDENTS WITH A GROWTH MINDSET DON’T GIVE UP. THEY TURN IT UP!
Everybody loves a good comeback. When something doesn’t go your way in life, it’s important to look at it as an opportunity to prove that you can adapt and overcome.
Speaker, minister, and author Eric Thomas reminds us in his book The Secret of Success that getting knocked back is really a step forward toward achievement.
A SETBACK IS A SETUP FOR A COMEBACK
Giving up on goals can lock yourself into a vicious cycle. When you tell yourself that failure means it’s time to move on to something different instead of telling yourself to pick yourself up and brush the dirt off, you’ll never get better at anything.
Five years before publishing one of the most influential books of the 21st century, J.K. Rowling was living on welfare and struggling as a single mother.
Rowling wrote the first book in the Harry Potter series while working during the night as a teacher. Her manuscript was rejected 12 times by publishers. When Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone eventually did get published, Rowling was advised not to quit her day job since her “chance of success was slim”. With over 450 million Harry Potter books sold worldwide, we all know how that turned out!
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Stop worrying about the “score” and keep learning. Eventually your comeback will happen, and you’ll be thankful for every setback along the way.
